‘Team Giannis’ announces huge donation to kids charity

Basketball superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo announced his All-Star team will donate another $100,000 to the After School Matters charity they were playing for during the NBA All-Star Game. The charity was already set to receive $100,000 based on the All-Star Game results.

After School Matters is a Chicago-based non-profit organization devoted to providing innovative out-of-school programs for teenagers. The teen population that After School Matters serves is almost entirely minority and living at or below the poverty level.

“Thank you After School Matters for your energy, as you inspired us,” Antetokounmpo said. “It was an honor to play for you. On behalf of our team, we’re going to donate another $100,000 to support your great work. Keep it up!”

The organisation was greatly touched, stating: “We are so grateful to Giannis, the NBA, and NBA Cares for recognizing After School Matters and our teens. The national coverage of this event will not only highlight the important role we play for Chicago teens, but also shine a light on our incredible ASM teens and remind them of how much they matter. This is an amazing moment for ASM, as we approach our 30th anniversary, to be showcased on national television and embraced by an organization like the NBA.”
