Greek Government driving initiative for electric cars

Greece’s Environment and Energy Minister, Kostis Hatzidakis is currently in the Netherlands to meet with industry and government official to discuss the country’s successful electricity-powered vehicles sector.

Hatzidakis met with Dutch Ministers of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy Eric Wiebes and of Environment and Housing Stientje van Veldhoven and will visit the offices of Elaad NL, an innovation centre for smart recharging infrastructure and their management by the power network, and the companies Allego and Alfen, leaders in recharging solutions for electric vehicles.

The Netherlands has 46,000 recharging stations, a number expected to double over the next years, while the City of Amsterdam has recently announced it will gradually phase out the circulation of all petrol- and diesel-based vehicles in the city by 2030.

The Greek Minister was also scheduled to visit a city taxi point, where taxis - now all running on electricity - get recharged.
