A Holy icon of Panagia and a donation box worth up to $10,000 have been stolen from a Greek Orthodox church on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula in Australia.
Local Crime Unit detectives are investigating the burglary which took place in the suburb of Red Hill on February 10, 2020.
According to police reports, it is believed two unknown males attempted to jemmy open the front doors of the Arthurs Seat Road church sometime between 12.10 am and 12.30 am.
The males eventually gained access by forcing open a side door.
The Holy Icon that holds significant value to the church was stolen along with a green wooden donation box containing money.
The silver icon was made in Greece in 1974 and would cost between $5,000 to $10,000 to replace.
Investigators have released images and CCTV in the hope someone may recognise the males.
