There are three new confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus COVID-19 in Greece, bringing the total number of people infected to seven.
According to reports, the first new case is a Greek woman, a close contact of patient zero. She remains in isolation at AHEPA hospital in Thessaloniki, after she was diagnosed at the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
It is reported that the second person who was recently diagnosed with coronavirus, is a Greek national who traveled to an affected area of Italy. He remains in isolation in a hospital in Athens. The incident was diagnosed at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute.
The third is also a Greek national, a close contact of the third confirmed case. They also remain in isolation at a reference hospital in Athens, after being diagnosed with the novel coronavirus at the Laboratory of Microbiology of the Nursing School of Nursing.
As a precautionary measure, Greece cancelled all its annual Aporkies (carnival) festivities that were planned for this weekend.
“Based on the experts’ recommendation, and to protect public health, we have decided to cancel carnival events in all of Greece, as other European countries have done,” Greece’s Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said during a news conference.
