Erdoğan calls Greek authorities "Nazis"

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated there is “no difference” between Nazis and the Greek authorities trying to hold the country’s border against the influx of thousands of migrants and refugees spurred to push into the European Union by Ankara.

Erdoğan's comments were made during a meeting of his AKP Party’s parliamentary group in Ankara on Wednesday, where he said "There is no difference between what the Nazis did and the images we are seeing from the Greek border."

The Turkish President also referred to the Greek authorities as “barbarians” and “fascists.”

History recalls that during the course of the Second World War, the occupation of Greece by the Axis Powers began in April 1941 after Nazi Germany invaded Greece to assist its ally, Fascist Italy.

In total during the time of occupation, Bulgarian, German and Italian forces executed some 70,000 Greeks (40,000, 21,000 and 9,000, respectively) and destroyed hundreds of villages.
