The European Commission on Wednesday confirmed that the Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson will visit Greece on Thursday "in continuation of the support measures announced last week on the management of the migration crisis in Greece".
According to the Commission announcement, the visit will focus on the condition of over 5,500 unaccompanied children and teenagers that are hosted in reception centres on the Greek islands.
The President and the EU Commissioner will meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and will visit the reception and identification centre in Eleonas at midday before having a meeting at Maximos Mansion.
Earlier today, Johansson will meet with Migration and Asylum Minister, Notis Mitarachi and Alternate Minister, Giorgos Koumoutsakos about the migration crisis and the protection of unaccompanied minors.
The Home Affairs Commissioner will also meet with agencies including the responsible minister and representatives of UNCHR, of the International Organisation for Migration and the Greek society of citizens.
Johansson will be accompanied by the Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs Monique Pariat.
