Shots reportedly fired by Turkish forces against Greek patrol unit in Evros

By 4 years ago

Turkey’s special forces reportedly fired shots at a Greek military vehicle that had been stationed on the Greek Evros border on Wednesday.

It is not the first report of such an incident happening, as earlier this week, a Greek border guard on night patrol came under fire from the Turkish side of the border.

Following the failure of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to reach a breakthrough in talks with EU officials in Brussels on Monday, the Greek police are on an even higher alert for a possible mass push by illegal migrants assisted by Turkey.

Yesterday, a Turkish Coast Guard speedboat also deliberately collided with a Greek Coast Guard boat off the coast of Kos, hitting it in the stern.

The Greek government has made it clear that it intends to defend its borders and not allow the entry of any illegal migrants, a decision fully supported by the EU.
