Greece's first female president, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, was sworn in for a five-year term on Friday.

The swearing-in ceremony took place in an almost empty parliament, as part of measures being taken to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Before Archbishop Ieronymos, head of the Orthodox Church of Greece, Sakellaropoulou took a religious oath in parliament.

Handshakes were also excluded from the ceremony. The latest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Greece remains at 117, the same as Thursday evening.

Sakellaropoulou placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before heading to the Presidential Mansion for a handover ceremony with outgoing President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
