A cargo ship carrying 193 migrants from Turkey, ran aground in rough weather outside the port of Kea, early Monday morning.
The ship sailed from the Turkish port of Canakkale and was heading to Italy when bad weather conditions in the maritime region forced it to sail to the Greek island.
According to reports, the passengers which are all in good health, are temporarily being housed by the municipality in a local hotel.
It is rare, though not unprecedented, for smugglers to use cargo ships/ tankers to transfer migrants to Greece.
Authorities say that 3 traffickers were among the 193 migrants.
