Greek President expresses solidarity with the people of Italy

Greece’s President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Thursday called her Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella to express her own and the Greek people's solidarity with the Italian people.

During their telephone conversation Mrs. Sakellaropoulou expressed her deep sorrow over the large number of victims of the coronavirus in Italy and her admiration for the Italian citizens' responsible stance in handling the pandemic.

She also sent a message of optimism to Italy, wishing to Mattarella "andrà tutto bene" (everything will go all right).

On his part, the Italian president thanked Sakellaropoulou for her sincere expression of solidarity and expressed the hope that the pandemic will soon be successfully addressed, noting that it was a pandemic without borders which has changed everyone's lives. He also expressed the hope that Italy's experience will help other countries to more effectively address the crisis with fewer victims, noting that the strict protection measures are absolutely necessary to avoid spreading coronavirus.

Sakellaropoulou thanked her Italian counterpart for his good wishes upon her assumption of office, expressing her desire that the excellent collaboration between the two countries, which are bound by very strong relations of friendship, will be further strengthened in the future.
