The Greek government is considering temporarily banning all foreign passenger flights to Greece, to halt the spread of the coronavirus.

The discussion took place on Thursday via teleconference, with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras and other government officials.

This move is considered appropriate after the increase in worldwide coronavirus cases.

The decision will exclude specific cargo flights, especially the ones related to essential products.

Greece on Thursday announced that 46 new coronavirus cases have been reported, raising the country’s total to 464 while the death toll has also increased to 6.

It is estimated that the number will increase further in the coming days.

More details to come.
