First case of coronavirus at Mount Athos

The first case of coronavirus has been reported on Mount Athos.

According to reports, the monk who is infected with the novel coronavirus, is being treated at the AHEPA University General Hospital in Thessaloniki.

He had recently travelled to the UK with a monastery’s delegation. More monks at the same monastery have presented symptoms and will remain in quarantine.

Ιt is the first confirmed coronavirus case in Mt. Athos, after the Holy Mountain temporarily shut its doors on March 20 to visitors.
