Minister warns "No Easter exodus to villages"

Greek Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis ruled out any possibility of lifting the lockdown measures and curfew restrictions before Greek Orthodox Easter.

“There will be no Easter exodus this year. The lockdown will definitely be in place until then,” Georgiadis said.

Speaking to SKAI, he explained that while the country has done well in managing the coronavirus crisis it would be "a very big mistake" to transmit the virus to the countryside, as most cases have been recorded in Athens.

There are fears that if Easter in villages are allowed, the situation is likely to become uncontrolled and the coronavirus will spread across Greece at a rapid pace, he added.

The Minister underlined that April will be a very crucial month for the spread of coronavirus in Greece, while at the same time implying that there will be even tighter controls on tolls to ensure that there is no movement to the villages.
