A woman who was spotted swimming at the beach of Agioi Apostoloi in Chania, Crete, on Wednesday afternoon, has been fined for violating the restrictive measures implemented to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

As she swam farther and farther out from the beach, she heard the siren of the local Coast Guard and a loudspeaker calling her to come back to the shore.

When she got out of the water, police officers fined her €150 for violating the lockdown which has recently banned swimming, fishing and water sports.

According to reports, she told the officers that she was not aware of the swimming ban, but they still issued her the fine and informed her that the ban has been in effect since March 23, 2020.

In the justification of the fine, the officers wrote "unnecessary movement".
