The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Greece has risen to 1,613, according to the latest update from Health Ministry spokesperson and infectious diseases expert Professor Sotiris Tsiodras.

He added that the death toll has risen to 63.

This figure included the 121 cases onboard the Eleftherios Venizelos ferry, which is anchored off the port of Piraeus, Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias said.

The 201 remaining people on the passenger ferry who tested negative (mostly foreign workers), will be transferred to hotels for a period of quarantine before being repatriated.

Some 92 patients are being treated in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and more than half of these suffer from underlying health issues.

It must be noted, Tsiodras added, that 11 patients have been discharged from  ICUs in the last 24 hours.

A total of 22,437 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Greece.
