Stricter quarantine measures for Mykonos and Santorini

The Greek government has imposed stricter quarantine measures for the islands of Mykonos and Santorini, the two most popular islands in the country.

From Monday 6th April, the new measures (listed below) will go into effect and will last for 14 days, when they will be reviewed.

Mykonos has adopted a night-time curfew, where residents are banned from leaving their homes from 8pm-8am. Residents will also no longer be allowed to attend weddings, only funerals and this only for the closest relatives of the diseased. In a family situation where the the parents are split or divorced, the parent who does not have custody of the children will not be allowed to visit them. Furthermore, residents can no longer leave their homes to tend to a sick or otherwise vulnerable family member, municipal authorities will undertake that role.

Unlike the rest of Greece, residents of Mykonos will not be allowed to leave their homes to exercise, individually or in pairs. They will only be allowed to walk their dog for 15 minutes, and only on the block around their home.

There are also stricter than usual crowd control measures in supermarkets.

This comes as the first coronavirus case was confirmed on the island last week.

On the island of Santorini, all construction activities are suspended.
