More than 2,000 cases of coronavirus have now been diagnosed in Greece.
Health Ministry spokesperson and infectious diseases expert Professor Sotiris Tsiodras on Friday evening announced 56 new confirmed cases and 4 new deaths in the last 24 hours.
Of the total 2,011 infections, 525 were infected abroad and 776 in Greece.
Deaths total 90 since the start of the outbreak, of whom 86% had underlying health issues or their average age was 70 or over.
Some 77 patients are being treated in Intensive Care Units and 75% suffer from underlying health issues. A total of 15 people have so far been discharged from ICUs.
During the daily briefing, Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias told journalists that a Roma settlement located near the city of Larissa in central Greece, has been placed on lockdown, after 20 people tested positive for Covid-19.
Hardalias and Tsiodras visited the settlement hours before the press conference to evaluate the situation and discuss with the residents what they need to do.
“The situation is difficult, the example of Larissa shows how fragile the situation is,” he said adding that authorities have secured the supply of food and medicine for the residents of the settlement.
A total of 35,432 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Greece.
On Friday Greece’s Education Ministry extended the lockdown of schools and universities until May 10.
