The youth of Saint Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church in Adelaide, South Australia, have come up with a creative initiative called ‘Saint Yourself A Seat’.
A wonderful way for parishioners to partake in church during Easter this year without being physically present due to social distancing restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government’s ban on community and mass gatherings will see our churches during Easter this year empty and most now live-streaming liturgy services. This Holy Week particularly will be a very different experience than other years. Although challenging and uncertain times, it is important to keep our faith, prayers and trust in Christ and pray for the world to recover from this pandemic.
The youth of St Anthony church came up with a way to enable feeling presently involved from afar whilst also helping the church with its expenses.
As Orthodox Christians we are encouraged to unite and exercise our faith, particularly in difficult times. By purchasing an icon of a saint of your choice for the cost of $20AUD, it will be hand-made and hung in the church to represent yourself or a family member/person you believe is in need. The aim is to fill the church full of icons for all the missing parishioners and at the end of this crisis your icon will be waiting for you to collect.
