Greece's infectious diseases expert Professor Sotiris Tsiodras, who gives daily updates to Greek citizens about the course of the coronavirus in the country, was the inspiration for  a chandler.

Tsiodras is the most popular person in Greece right now, according to a recent poll conducted by Marc for Alpha TV.

The poll found that 94.6% of respondents have a positive or quite positive view of the softly spoken infectious disease physician and professor Sotiris Tsiodras, whose daily televised updates are watched by most Greeks.

This inspired the craftsman from Keratsini (a municipality in the Piraeus regional unit, Athens) Panagiotis Papasimakis to design a candle in honour of him.

Papasimakis engraved the image of the professor with the help of the 3D printer, printed it and put it on a white candle.

After posting an image of the candle, he clarified that it is not available for sale.

Many have praised this move as a tribute to the Sydney-born immunologist Tsiodras, who for more than a month has dedicated his daily life exclusively to dealing with the pandemic.
