Greece’s President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Easter Sunday visited the border post at Kastanies in Evros, where Turkey had recently sent thousands of illegal migrants in an attempt to compromise the country’s territorial integrity.

"I am here today to pay tribute to the guards of the borders and to our Armed forces that, under very difficult conditions, are defending Greece's safety and in parallel Europe's safety," the President said.

Addressing all the Greeks she underlined that this year we are experiencing the most difficult Easter in our recent history but also the most spiritual and internal and for this reason we are not complaining, we show patience and persistence, she said and wished all Greeks Happy Easter.

Referring to the pandemic she said that Greece became an example for the whole world in the battle against the coronavirus and wished next year to celebrate Easter in the traditional way in a country free from fear that will walk on the way of progress, prosperity and optimism.

"With faith, determination and consistency with can overcome any challenge and danger," she noted.
