China will donate 20,000 masks to help curb the spread of coronavirus at migrant reception centers on the Greek islands.

Following a phone call between Alternate Migration and Asylum Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos and China Ambassador to Greece Zhang Qiyue, the masks will be delivered to the Ministry of Migration and Asylum on Wednesday.

This comes as Health Ministry spokesperson and infectious diseases expert Professor Sotiris Tsiodras on Tuesday announced 156 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the nationwide total to 2,401.

He said 150 of these cases were detected at the Kranidi migrant accommodation in the Peloponnese.

In the past 24 hours, another five people have died, bringing the death toll to 121.

Some 59 patients are being treated in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). It must be noted, Tsiodras added, that 46 patients have been discharged from ICUs.

A total of 55,666 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Greece.
