Greece’s Education and Religion Ministry announced that Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, requested the immediate opening of churches for individual prayer.

According to the announcement, Archbishop Ieronymos sent a letter to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis requesting the opening of churches for the faithful as soon as possible in full compliance with the measures and guidelines given by health authorities concerning the congregation.

As services in Greece gradually start reopening, such as the courts, Archbishop Ieronymos believes that churches should be included in the regulation of the gradual lifting of the restrictive coronavirus measures.

The government is currently examining the request and is waiting for estimates to be given by Sotiris Tsiodras and the competent health authorities.
