On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, President of Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou stated that "the pandemic, that has changed the rules of our lives confirmed the vital importance of the free and reliable information."

The President said that in a period that nothing is taken for granted, the World Press Freedom Day gives us the opportunity to appreciate the value of the press and of the journalists that are searching and cross checking the information and separate the rumours from reality, reject fake news and conspiracy theories and respect the facts.

Sakellaropoulou underlined that the freedom of the press is a key factor for the live, constructive and democratic public dialogue adding that "When the journalists' right to do their job free from fear and threats is violated, the citizens right to free information is also violated as well as our right to be informed and be responsible citizens."
