No new coronavirus cases were announced in Cyprus on Saturday for the first time since March 9, when the country reported its first two cases, according to the Health Ministry.

“Out of a total of 2,414 laboratory tests, no cases of SARS-CoV-2 were detected,” the ministry said in a statement.

On Saturday, beaches on the island also resumed operation under strict new regulations.

The total number of cases in Cyprus currently stands at 927, with 17 related fatalities.

The announcement was an encouraging sign for Cyprus’ plans to revive its tourism. Earlier this week, Cypriot Deputy Tourism Minister Savvas Perdios announced that Cyprus will reopen its airports on June 9.

In Greece, three new confirmed cases were confirmed on Saturday, brining the total number to 2,876.

Of total cases, 613 concern individuals infected during travel abroad and 1,458 people who were infected domestically.

In addition, Greece registered another two deaths due to the virus, bringing the total number of Covid-19 casualties to 171, of whom 50 were women.
