Following similar cleanups in recent weeks in Kolonaki, Exarchia, Metaxourgeio, Votanikos and Petralona, crews from the Municipality of Athens’ sanitation department using two large sweepers and six street washing machines, cleaned and washed the streets in Probonas on Sunday.
“The sweeping cleaning companies throughout Athens have already given the desired results… because the cleanliness of the city is measured in practice, not in intention. And Athens is cleaning, practically,” Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis said in a statement.
The initiative is a way of ensuring “the citizens’ right to enjoy their city, clean,” he added.
“Cleaning Sundays bring the result we all want to see and live in the neighborhoods of Athens. Every Sunday, an entire mechanism sweep roads and sidewalks of an area. Today, at Probonas. Every day and every Sunday, the municipality is here. Cleaning Athens.”
