A coronavirus outbreak has occurred after a party in the northern city of Thessaloniki.

According to the morning news program Open Beyond, a student from England held a party to celebrate her return to Greece and a few days later, showed symptoms of coronavirus.

She went to the hospital where she was tested and returned a positive test for the virus. Tracking of everyone she was in contact with has already begun so that authorities can identify if there are other cases.

According to Greek media reports, the party took place at the home of the student's family in Panorama, Thessaloniki.

The girl who is the daughter of a well-known businessman in the city broke the mandatory 14 day quarantine period. In fact, shortly before the party, there was a barbecue in the garden of the house. During an inspection by the authorities, it was found that she had broken the quarantine and was fined 5,000 euros.

However, the fine did not prevent her from organising another party a few days later in the Stavrokinita area of Thessaloniki with about 30 guests and a fireworks display.

Authorities are tracking down the attendees of the party and the customers and employees of the hairdressing salon, where she went to beautify herself after her return to Greece.

According to the local site makthes.gr, a relative of hers has already been admitted to the hospital with coronavirus.
