The President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou met with Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis on Thursday, who informed her about the municipality's urban improvement projects in downtown Athens, which are part of the works for the 'Great Walk of Athens', ANT News reported.
The pilot implementation of the 'Great Walk of Athens' began on Thursday.
Sakellaropoulou expressed hope that the works will help make everyday life better for Athens residents and visitors, underlining that the city's historic centre must again become a pole of attraction and regain the vibrancy it deserves.
The president also noted that the efforts to restore the historic building that housed the Attiko cinema must be speeded up, in order to close what has, for years, been an "open wound" in the heart of Athens.
