Oscar-winning director is looking for the ideal Greek island for his new film

An Oscar-winning director has shown interest in visiting Greece to choose a location for a new thriller film he is directing, ERT reported.

Since the beginning of the year, many foreign film companies have expressed their interests in shooting in Greece this year, but the pandemic has led to the suspension of studio activities and the cancellation or postponement of many films or series.

The National Centre of Audiovisual Media and CommunicationEKOME- notes that Greece not only has amazing places to shoot but the country is also ranked high amongst the safest countries in the world for Covid-19.

Panos Kouanis, CEO of EKOME, told ERT that the director has selected seven Greek islands to visit and choose from, while the shooting will take place either in the fall or in the spring of 2021.

According to Kouanis, there were lots of films that were scheduled to be shot in spring and summer in Greece, but unfortunately due to lockdown, they were either cancelled or postponed. However, it is predicted that "many of them will return in September."

Among the tools to attract foreign producers is the so-called Cash Rebate, which amounts to 35% on the eligible expenses incurred in Greece for all beneficiaries. Producers will have access to state aid once they pass the cultural test and spend at least €100,000 in the case of feature films or documentaries and €60,000 in the case of digital games in eligible expenses in Greece.
