Firefighters are currently battling a fire at the Temploni landfill in Corfu, media outlet Kerkyrasimera reported.
The cause of the fire which broke out around 10pm, is still unknown.
According to the latest information, the landfills have been engulfed in flames, including a waste baler.
A large number of firefighters are on the scene including Corfu fire brigade chief Nikos Kolovos. They are assisted by water carriers (tanks) from the municipality of Corfu and the Ionian Islands Region.
There is lots of smoke in the area, however residential areas are threatened by the fire.
