Greek prison confirms first coronavirus case

Athens’ high-security Korydallos Prison has reported its first case of Covid-19.

The inmate, a 33-year-old Greek-Armenian man, was transferred to Sotiria Hospital for treatment.

A team of health workers from the National Organization of Public Health (EODY) visiedt Korydallos on Wednesday to collect samples from other prisoners who may have come into contact with the patient.

Sixteen new Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Greece in the past 24 hours, raising the total to 3,302.

Of the total, 728 are people who were infected abroad and 1,844 were infected by already known cases.

No deaths were recorded for the third day in a row, leaving the overall fatality number at 190.

Eight people remain intubated in hospitals while 118 have left ICU.

Some 291,187 diagnostic tests for Covid-19 have been carried out in Greece.
