Giannis Antetokounmpo to wear 'Equality' on jersey

Giannis Antetokounmpo decided on the word that will be on the back of his jersey instead of his last name, when the games resume at the end of the month.

Last week, NBA agreed on messages (in the context of the 'Black Lives Matter' movement) players can wear instead of their names on the backs of their jerseys when the season reboots on July 31.

The word "equality" will stand out on the back of Giannis Antetokounmpo's jersey.

According to sources, Thanasis will have the same word.

It is recalled that the ‘Greek Freak’ joined millions of people calling for change after African-American George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police on May 25. He did so first through social media and then through peaceful protests.

Giannis, who is a model and an idol for the city of Milwaukee, actively participated, along with his brothers Thanasis and Alex, to protest the murder of George Floyd and also handed out water bottles to protesters.

He also took the lead in the demonstration that took place in the city, asking for “change and justice”.

“This is our city, man,” he said in the video. “We got to come out here and support.”

“We want change, we want justice, and that’s why we’re out here,” Antetokounmpo said. “That’s what we’re going to do today. That’s why I’m going to march with you. I want my kid to grow up here in Milwaukee, and not to be scared to walk in the streets. I don’t want my kid to have hate in his heart.”

Meanwhile the Milwaukee Bucks including Antetokounmpo, are currently in Orlando, preparing for the resumption of the NBA season, which will take place at Disneyworld.

Antetokounmpo was averaging 29.6 points and 13.7 rebounds per game this season when play was suspended, both career-highs following his league MVP-winning performance last season.
