Greek airports open to flights from the United Kingdom

The first direct flight from the UK landed at Ioannis Kapodistrias airport in Corfu on Wednesday.

To celebrate, the plane was welcomed with a water arch.

It is recalled that Greece's borders opened to British tourists on Wednesday (15th July).

The British tourists on board were tested based on the Passenger Locator Form (PLF) they completed.

The information on the form is a key element of the country’s planning for protection against the pandemic and preventing the spread of the virus. The data from each traveller is  analysed and based on it, they will receive a special barcode which will determine if upon arrival the passenger will be tested for COVID-19 or not.

It is estimated that 6,000 British tourists will be COVID-19 tested in the coming days. Their results will determine whether or not the Greek borders will remain open for tourists entering the country from the UK.

According to the plan, almost all tourists arriving in Greece from the UK will be tested and if the number (and percentage) of those who test positive is low, not exceeding 30-40 cases, then with strict and ongoing epidemiological surveillance tests, tourism from the country will remain open.

However, if the numbers of those infected are higher, the government is committed to closing the borders again.
