Leading by example, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been wearing a face mask during the pandemic.

From Saturday, Greece made face masks compulsory in all indoor public places.

They were already obligatory on public transport, supermarkets, and shops providing goods and services of all kind etc., but the government has now brought in stricter measures to try to fight a growing number of clusters of covid-19 cases in the country.

Personal responsibility “was and is the secret success of Greece,” Civil Protection Deputy Minister for Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias said, “and at this stage we must all exhibit the same sense responsibility and awareness.”

Over the weekend, Mitsotakis also changed his display picture on his social media profiles- depicting him wearing a face mask.

This comes as Greece registered 110 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Saturday.

9 new cases were confirmed during checks at the country’s air and land entry points, and 19 were registered in the Attica region, 37 in the Thessaloniki region and 3 at the island of Corfu.
