A Total War Saga

Ancient Greece has proved a ripe source of inspiration for video games, from the original God of War trilogy up to the recent Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and Ubisoft’s upcoming Gods & Monsters.

There’s a rich tapestry of myths and legends to choose from that blend real world history with hugely exaggerated accounts of heroic bravery and the divine meddling of the Greek pantheon of gods.

Creative Assembly’s next strategy game is A Total War Saga: Troy, and we’ve heard a lot about it to this point, but the consummate strategy enthusiast always hungers for more. To that end, Creative Assembly has released a couple new videos about the game highlighting the unique campaign mechanics for playing as the heroes on both the Greek and Trojan sides. A key part of differentiating the factions in the small theatre of this focused Total War game is the heroes: They give flavor to your army, have unique mechanics, and dictate what units you can recruit.

The game will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for a year. This is a one-off, and the developer doesn’t plan to continue with the same initiative on further Total War games going forward. We also saw another video focusing on the famous Trojan Horse, one featuring Achilles, another focusing on Menelaus, one showcasing Paris, and one starring Agamemnon.

It will also be free for a day when it launches on August 13, 2020.
