Greece’s Civil Protections Authority imposed a series of restrictive measures on the island of Poros, to prevent the further spread of coronavirus infections.
The restrictive measures were decided “for urgent reasons of addressing a serious risk to public health and in particular to limit the spread of the Covid-19,” the Civil Protection said in a statement on Thursday.
According to reports, 13 of the 40 new confirmed cases located in the Prefecture of Attica in the last 24 hours, were on the island of Poros.

On Friday, more authorities will be deployed to the island, in order to make sure that residents and visitors are all adhering to the new restrictions.
The measures will be in effect until August 17.
The Municipal Council of Poros have also taken action, which were announced by the Mayor Giannis Dimitriadis.
The Municipal Council decided to close all services of the Municipality as well as playgrounds, ban religious processions and stop playing music in cafes, bars, restaurants and hotels after 11 o’ clock at night.
Meanwhile, Greece reported 153 new coronavirus cases in the latest 24-hour reporting period, of which 18 are from incoming travellers.

This raises the total number of cases to 5,123.
1,370 are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 2,551 are related to an already known case.
Fourteen individuals are in ICU. Their median age is 70 years, while a 64.3% has an underlying health condition or are aged 70 or over.
The country’s pandemic death toll remains at 210.
