The VIAL Reception & Identification Center for migrants in Chios, has been placed on lockdown after a 35-year-old man and a staff member of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Greek health authorities said on Thursday.
The decision by the Citizen Protection and Migration & Asylum Ministries with the National Public Health Organization stated the lockdown will be until August 25.
Authorities are tracing their contacts and testing all staff at the facility.
The 35-year-old man who originates from Yemen, is currently at the NE Aegean island's hospital with a fever.
Entry and exit is prohibited for all at the facility, and a police unit is on duty around it. In addition, the Asylum Service office and all NGO programs within the facility are suspended.
