Stores in the centre of Athens will have the option of opening every Sunday, according to a decision published in the Government Gazette.
The new law goes into force in November 2021.
Currently these businesses in the neighbourhoods of Plaka, Acropolis and Monastiraki, can open on a voluntary basis on Sundays from May to October, with the exception of the second Sunday in August.
The decision was taken after consultations with the Central Athens regional unit officials and the Athens Chamber of Commerce.
