Greece has prevented over 60,000 illegal immigrants from entering

From February 28 to August 3 this year, over 60,000 illegal immigrants were prevented from entering Greece from the Evros area on the Greek-Turkish border region.

A total of 61,508 people, as announced by the Minister of National Defense, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, when answering a question submitted to Parliament by a Greek MP about whether “the invasion of Evros” is still going on.

At the same time, Panagiotopoulos referred to the measures taken by the General Staff “in the context of assistance to the police, for the treatment of migration / refugee flows in the area of Evros”.

  • Increased ground and air border surveillance measures, with active Army Units and the use of multiple electronic means (electro-optical sensors, radio locators, etc.), as well as aircraft.
  • Constantly installs and to a greater extent, improved barriers, which aim for the universal prevention of illegal entry of immigrants within Greek territory.
  • Conducts joint patrols with Greek police and has personnel in the unified Border Surveillance Control Center, where coordination of available forces and means is implemented.
  • In addition, actions have been taken for the construction and installation of barriers, of various types, along a long border.

In March this year, Turkey attempted to assymetrically invade Greece with the use of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants from Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Turkey had not only falsely told the illegal immigrants that Greece’s borders were open, but it also facilitated the transportation of the illegal immigrants and utilized their army to try and tear down Greece’s border wall.

To assist in distracting the Turkish population for his failures in Syria and the economy, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan fully utilized Turkish media to assist in the propaganda campaign that Greece was violently abusing the illegal immigrants. Turkey is one of the lowest ranked countries for media freedoms in the world, is the second most susceptible country surveyed on the European continent to fake news, has the most journalists jailed in the whole world, and 90% of media is government controlled.
