A hot mic has captured a conversation between European Union's high representative for foreign affairs, Josep Borrell and German Defense Minister, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
They were discussing the escalating tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean being provoked by Turkey.
The 'surprise incident' occurred after the informal meeting of European defense ministers in the German capital on Wednesday.
Without realising that the microphone was on, regarding talks with Greek and Turkish officials the German Minister stated: "Hard. A little bit more smooth on the Greek side but really hard on the Turkish side."
In response, the EU top diplomat said: "The Turks are very upset with this deal with Egypt", adding: "They feel that the Greeks are not reliable".
Speaking to reporters, Kramp-Karrenbauer said that the Greek-Turkish crisis is not just a matter for the two countries, but "concerns us all, the EU and NATO."
"Germany is trying to mediate and launch a political solution. These are complex issues, they are not resolved overnight. "We agreed with Mr. Panagiotopoulos and (the Cypriot Minister of Defense) Petridis on the need to de-escalate the tension in the Eastern Mediterranean," she added.
