Pope Francis concerned over tension in Eastern Mediterranean

The head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State, Pope Francis has expressed concern over tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.

"I follow with concern the tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean," he said without naming any country involved in the conflict.

During his Angelus on Sunday, Pope Francis also prayed to end the "instability" in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

"I appeal for constructive dialogue and respect for international law to resolve the conflicts that threaten the peace of the peoples of that region," he later tweeted.
