Athens International Airport passenger traffic plunges 60.4% in August

Greece's main gateway Athens International Airport 'Eleftherios Venizelos' saw passenger traffic of 1.2 million in August, down by 60.4% compared to a year earlier, due to travel restrictions from covid-19.

According to statistics released by Athens International Airport for the month of August, passengers on both domestic and international flights recorded a decrease of 47% and 66.2%, respectively.

During the period January-August, traffic at the airport reached 6 million passengers, a decrease of 65.3% compared to 2019. International traffic fell by 68.4%, while domestic passengers fell by 58.3%.

In terms of the number of flights during the first eight months of 2020, they amounted to 77,584, recording a decrease of 49.7% compared to 2019 due to flight cancellations during March-August. Domestic flights decreased by 44.2% and international flights by 53.8%.
