34-year-old paratrooper in Greece’s Special Forces, sergeant Konstantinos Meligonis, was killed on Thursday night during a routine free fall parachute training exercise in Ilida, a municipality in the Elis regional unit, Greece.
Strong winds are thought to have violently pulled the paratrooper outside of the exercise’s designated airdrop zone, unfortunately causing the accident.
Fellow soldiers who witnessed the accident rushed to locate the soldier. Despite efforts, they were unable to revive him.
Greek authorities will open an investigation to determine the cause of the sergeant’s tragic death.
Rest in Peace Konstantinos Meligonis.
