Covid-19: Local lockdowns in Pella, Pieria, Imathia and Kilkis

Greece's Deputy Minister for Civil Protection & Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias, on Thursday announced additional restrictive measures for the regions of Pella, Pieria, Imathia and Kilkis.

The measures include:

  • A ban on the operation of restaurants, nightclubs and entertainment from midnight until 7 the next morning
  • A suspension of every kind of event such as open markets, panayiria (religious celebrations), and parades
  • A ban on gatherings of over 9 people for any reason and in both public and private spaces
  • A maximum of 4 people per table at eating places (unless they are relatives, which allows up to 6 people per table)
  • Mandatory use of a mask on the entire island, both in indoor and outdoor areas.

The measures will go into effect as of Friday September 11, until Friday September 25.

Greece recorded 372 new cases of COVID-19 in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

This raises the total number of cases to 12,452.

2,324 are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 5,511 are related to an already known case.

Forty-nine individuals are in the ICU, and their median age is 70 years. 87.8% have an underlying condition or are aged 70 and above.

Another 167 have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

The country’s pandemic death toll stands at 297. The median age of all was 78 years and 96.3% of the deceased had an underlying condition.
