The Hellenic Parliament is set for a facelift

The exterior of the historic and impressive building of the Hellenic Parliament in Athens is currently undergoing restoration and maintenance works, Protagon reported.

The new 'face' is expected to be completed by March 2021, in time for the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence.

The planned works were presented by the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni, after the initiative of the President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas, who pointed out the significant damage that many elements of the Parliament building has.

The project is carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and funded by the National Strategic Referrence Framework (NSRF).

The first works on the building’s marble elements (propylae, balconies, columns, stairs, lampstands, marble lions, etc.) started last August and will be followed by the restoration of its wooden elements (entrance doors, frames, windows).

“The final result will breath life and offer a stunning view of one of the most beautiful buildings in the world,” President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas said.

On her part, Culture Minister Lina Mendoni stated that in addition to the restoration works, for the first time with the use of state-of-the-art 3D laser technology, a complete capture of the entire building was made. This recording will allow the ministry to perform future maintenance work based on complete and accurate data.
