Congratulations to the children who participated in the actions of the “Let’s Clean Up Europe” Campaign at Plato's Academy Park in Athens on Sunday.

“Let’s Clean Up Europe” aims to raise awareness for a litter-free environment.

"The Cleaning and Recycling Service of our Municipality participated in the European initiative "Let's Clean Up Europe", with the aim of raising public awareness about pollution and non-waste generation in public areas. With all the materials and means of protection, the volunteer scouts sent a message of respect and care for a point so important for the history of Athens," Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis posted on Instagram.

The campaign is implemented in Greece by the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA).

Millions of tonnes of litter end up in the oceans, beaches, forests and other natural areas each year. Careless littering and poor waste management are most to blame, but the problem is party caused by the way we consume goods and packaging designed to be used briefly and discarded.

If you would like to join the effort, please visit HELMPEA.
