Antetokounbros Academy, the basketball and education based venture, returns for the second year

AntetokounBros Academy, changing lives one basket at a time.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers Thanasis, Kostas and Alex, announced that their AntetokounBros Academy initiative is returning for the second consecutive year.

The academy which is based in Athens, Greece is a "community program that combines basketball training and educational inspiration aimed towards underprivileged young boys and girls aged 12 to 16”, according to the website.

What makes the AntetokounBros Academy special?

• It is inclusive to all nationalities, religions, genders
• Promotes girl / women empowerment and stands against stereotyping
• Trains the trainers, promoting change
• Provides basketball and educational pathways within the content of the program to continue releasing their potential

The Antetokounbros believe deeply in the power of sport and are committed to offering opportunities to those on the fringes of society – they have experienced firsthand how hard work and dedication can take you from the bottom right to the very top.

Besides basketball, which is the main motivation and reference point in this effort, AntetokounBros strongly believe that their involvement and engagement with kids will help them develop a balanced character, learn to work hard, be better teammates, and become better people. Not only on the basketball court, but also at home, at school and within the community.

Last year’s event which was held by the AntetokounBros in collaboration with Nike, Onassis Foundation, and Eurohoops Organization, provided the opportunity for high achievers to earn an undergraduate scholarship in Greece, along with summer school tuition in the UK, and apprenticeships for young coaches.

It has also been a huge month for Giannis Antetokounmpo! Just days after Giannis won his second straight NBA MVP award, he was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020.

AntetokouBros’ vision is for the Antetokounmpo name to be recognised for its social support and family contribution, and not just basketball.

The brothers founded the academy based on the theory that “it doesn’t matter where you start from, but where you can go!”.
