Originally where the lake now lies there was a large cave with a large number of hot springs. The high temperature and moisture of these springs caused the roof of the cave to collapse, creating the stunning layout that today is Vouliagmeni Lake.

Along with the list of fantastic benefits provided by the water, Garra Rufa, also known as ‘spa’ or ‘Dr’ fish, are part of the lake’s unique ecosystem. Garra Rufa is a special type of fish that loves to nibble on the detritus of the lake floor.

At the end of the lake there is an underwater 14 tunnel labyrinth cave that has yet to be fully with one of these being the longest such tunnel in the world at a length of 800 meters.
