Another 407 cases of COVID-19 and four new deaths in Greece

The National Organization of Public Health (EODY) announced a total of 407 new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece in the last 24 hours of which 56 are associated with known outbreaks and 25 were detected after checks at the country’s gates.

Thus, the total number of cases is 20,947, of which 55.9% are men. 3,150 (15.0%) are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 8,559 (40.9%) are related to an already known case.

At the same time, 88 people are being treated by intubation. Their median age is 67 years. Of these, 24 (27.3%) are women and the rest are men. 90.9% of intubated patients have an underlying disease or are aged 70 years and older.

The good news is that 232 patients have been discharged from the ICU.

Finally, we have four more recorded deaths, bringing a total of 424 deaths in total in the country. 158 (37.3%) are women and the rest are men. The median age of our deceased people was 78 years and 96.5% had an underlying disease and/or age 70 years and over.

Charalambos Gogos, Professor of Infectious Diseases and Pathology at the University of Patras, describes next week as crucial if new measures need to be taken to limit the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Speaking on Wednesday morning on ANT1, Gogos in a teleconference with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the measures taken so far will be evaluated and the possibility of taking new ones will be discussed, if necessary, especially in Attica.

According to Gogos, the measures that have already been taken should be strictly observed.

“There is stabilization in cases, but not at the level we want,” he said.

As he underlined, the situation with the cases will become even more difficult in the coming months when the temperature drops.
