New marina to be built in Halkidiki

The area of Sithonia in Halkidiki is set to host a new marina.

The Joint Ministerial Decision was signed by the the Minister of Tourism Harry Theoharis, Minister of Environment & Energy Kostis Hatzidakis and Minister of Culture & Sport Lina Mendoni.

The new marina in Agios Ioannis in Sithonia, will cover a land area of 3,660sq/m and 18,410sq/m of sea. It will also have a berthing capacity of 44 tourist boats.

"This is an important project, which will boost the tourist traffic in the area of ​​Halkidiki, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, mainly from the Balkan countries and Russia, as well as domestic travellers. The aim of this investment is to upgrade the tourist product of the region, by attracting high income tourists,” the ministry said in the announcement.

It is also planned to install a 64-meter long floating breakwater to protect the boats from the bad weather, and to increase mooring spots.

The new marina will offer lighting, drinking water and electricity supplies, fire protection systems and waste collection tanks.
