Greek MEP Kaili calls for new visa restrictions on Azerbaijanis, dialogue for abolishing visas for Armenians

Greek Member of the European Parliament Eva Kaili has submitted a request to the European Union to remove the Schengen Visa for Azeris holding diplomatic passports and to draw up a visa facility for Azerbaijani citizens.

The MEP notes that this must be the consequence of Azerbaijan's blatant violation of the human rights of Armenian citizens of Artsakh, or more commonly known as Nagorno-Karabakh, by the authoritarian Turkish-backed regime of Ilham Aliyev.

At the same time, she called for an assessment of the EU's security in light of Azerbaijan's invasion attempt of Artsakh and the now-visible possibility of an increase in illegal migratory flows from conflict zone to the EU.

She demanded a full report and information to the European Parliament by the Commission.

She also called for practical support for Armenia by launching a dialogue aimed at abolishing visas for Armenian citizens at a time when the country is in danger of a generalized Turkish-backed military attack.

"Mr. Aliyev is waging an unholy war against the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, violating the 1994 ceasefire agreement and defying the international community's calls for dialogue. The EU must show decisively that such blatant war attacks in our neighborhood cannot be tolerated without practical consequences," said the MEP of the Movement for Change.
